Practicing What We Preach!

Mental Health First Aid Training for Art of the Minds Volunteers
Wednesday October 21, 2020
  •  9:00am
  to 4:00pm
Cost: $250
Address: Workers Hut Baines Crescent
Would you know how to help?

Mental health problems can affect anyone in the community and inaccurate and stigmatising attitudes towards people with mental illness are common. Many people lack the knowledge, skills, and confidence to support a friend, family member or co-worker experiencing a mental health problem, including how to approach someone and start a safe conversation.

Become a Mental Health First Aider

Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) courses teach people simple, practical first aid skills for helping a family member, friend, co-worker, or other person who is experiencing mental health problems. MHFA courses will teach you how to listen and respond to someone with a mental health problem, even if they are experiencing a crisis. You will learn how to help someone to access the support they might need for the successful management of symptoms as part of their recovery journey.

In an effort to practice what we educate about and gain a deeper understanding of how to help those with mental health problems, Art of the Minds volunteers will be participating in a two-day, accredited training to actively reduce stigma in the community and respond appropriately to mental illness myths and misunderstandings.
